I felt excitement rise from deep within as I read the name on the label, Classic Crispy and Chunky Thick Tea, conjuring up childhood memories of golden moments spent sitting by the fire dipping thick biscuits into hot tea.

The only biscuits I have ever wanted to dip into my tea were plain or rich tea biscuits. All other biscuits are too flavoursome in their own right. Although these simple and divinely tasteless biscuits can be eaten on their own, they are at their best when dipped, as they soak up the comforting warmth of the tea and render the biscuit soft and succulent.

So you can imagine my disappointment when Foxes Classic Crispy and Chunky Thick Tea turned out to be nothing like the rich tea biscuits from my childhood and more like the Farley’s rusks from my infancy. The only thing missing was the smell of stale milk and nappies.

Given Foxes usual track record for producing splendid biscuits, this was indeed a disappointment and I won’t be buying them again.
